Anthony, an existing customer, has shown interest in using Google's AdSense - this is a free service offered by Google where an ad banner is placed on your website and in return you receive money. We are currently in the process of setting it up on his website - ajcorpesq.co.uk.
The plan is that the Google's AdSense will appear on the home page - in a column on the right-hand-side. I shall customize it as much as possible to help it blend in with the website layout.
I'm not sure how the trial will go - to be honest, I don't like adverts on websites - but it will be interesting to find out how it all goes - especially Google's 'competition filter'.
Google AdSense responded quickly - within a few hours - to confirm that Anthony's registration had been successful. I visited the Google AdSense website and set up the type of adverts, colour scheme, filters and 'channels' - ways in which to track performance.
Well, it about 24 hours until I got the okay for my website, thepaintkettle.com - so, I've just logged on this morning to choose the type of ads, then edit my existing website to fit in the new ads.
You will note that I've opted for a longer, wider banner for displaying ads - not sure if this will generate any more income, but I thought for the purposes of the trial it would be useful to compare. As I didn't want to spend much time redesigning the website - it's only for test purposes anyway - I simply created extra space on the left-side, fitting the dimensions of the banner.
Google AdSense provides you with tools to view how many hits your website has had and how many clicks on ads, it also shows how many US$ you have made... well, we're showing 0s at the moment, so let's just hope that changes. I'm going to be referring to their hints and tips about generating more revenue over the coming days and it will be interesting to see how this develops.
However, in terms of setting up everything - it is largely pain-free, but does require some degree of IT knowledge. You will also need to contact your web designer in order to add the code to your website and possibly re-style the page accordingly. The whole exercise will take about 2-3 hours - excluding waiting for registration confirmation.
If you prefer, I can always set it up on your own website - including re-styling your web page where required - please refer to the services page for more details.
